Switzerland vs Northern Ireland: World Cup 2018 Qualifiers – Betting Tips And Offers
The World Cup Playoffs for Europe have very transparent rules. There are 9 qualifying groups, which will have 9 2nd placed teams. These teams will have their results against the last-placed team in the group removed, and then a ranking will be created – the bottom-placed side in this classification will miss the playoffs, and the rest will be drawn against each other. The results are usually very balanced, but it one case this year, it doesn’t look like that on paper. Switzerland against Northern Ireland is the duel we’re talking about.
The Swiss have only lost 1st place in their group due to their last-fixture loss against Portugal. They had 27 points from a possible 30 in the group and had shown outstanding football across the entire qualifying campaign. They sit 1st in the rankings of 2nd placed teams, even in front of bigger names such as Italy, Sweden or Denmark.
Thankfully for them, they play the second leg of the tie against N.Ireland at home, in front of their loving fans. This comes as a pleasant advantage, especially since we back them to do well in Ireland as well – at least avoiding defeat. It’s tough for us to think that they will lose the home game.
On the other hand, N.Ireland have somewhat surprisingly won second place in a group which Germany completely dominated, but where Czechia and Norway were rather disappointing. The small nation is 6th among second-placed teams, only goal difference separating them from 7th and 8th place occupied by Greece and Ireland, respectively.
Moreover, the team has shown discipline and dedication, but not much else. They apparently lack quality and seem to rely on good defense to win games. They face a Swiss team with more experience and more World Cup tradition, but we’ve seen bigger surprises in football.

Betting Offers & Tips
From a betting perspective, though, we want to avoid surprises as much as possible. The Swiss enjoyed a good time in the first leg of the series, scoring in Ireland and putting themselves in a commanding lead for the second leg. We back them to do rather well at home, winning the game in a fairly convincing fashion.
We’d also fancy an under 2,5 goal bet because we believe N.Ireland will not score, and the Swiss won’t go gung-ho either. Even if the Irish try to score, they probably won’t be successful – so a 1-0 or 2-0 score is what we’d expect.
