When it comes to World Cup betting, there are generally two main approaches: looking for large odds on tough to predict games, or going for favorites and compromising on the odds. We’ve analyzed a few balanced games from Day 1 of the World Cup group stage, and now we want to look into a more one-sided fixture. But is France-Australia really that one-sided?

If we look at Australia first, we’d tend to think so. Although, ironically, they’ve won 1-0 over France in the only official game the two teams played! Their last outing was friendly, where France did manage to score six goals, so ancient history might not be so relevant.
Nowadays, Australian fans are more excited by the fact that Tim Cahill is here for another, final, World Cup appearance than about their chances to actually qualify from the group.
They lack the few truly good players they had during their last outing and seem like one of the weakest teams in the tournament. If we do expect them to do slightly better against Denmark or Peru, we surely don’t expect fireworks against France.

Speaking of the French team, their World Cup campaign might be all about betting odds – at least until the latter stages of the tournament. They’ve played the final of Euro 2016 and have one of the strongest teams on paper of their entire history.
Players like Pogba or Griezmann are international superstars which can win any game almost alone, while Kante is arguably one of the best defensive midfielders in the world at this time.
Seeing this team settle for anything less than a final appearance would be a surprise – and they’ll surely want to hit the ground running and draw up a quick, easy victory against Australia. They have all necessary qualities to do so. All they need is a little composure.
That being said, we’ll be looking to take advantage of some special World Cup betting offers for this game. If you have a free bet or some money to spend, don’t simply go for an outright France bet – that’s too easy. Instead, go for France over 2,5 goals, or even a France -2 bet.
We expect them to win by two or three goals, and at least one of them should be scored by Griezmann. Their quick wingers might be too much for the Australian defenders, so a penalty kick is not out of the question – which the Atletico Madrid striker will be quick to convert.
